Meta claims that Meta Llama 3.1 is the largest open-source AI model available, meaning it is free for anyone to use and build upon. They say it is even better than the top competitors in the field. In a blog post, Meta explained that this new model has performed better than GPT-4 and Claude 3.5 Sonnet by Anthropic in several important tests and benchmarks.

Last year, Meta released Llama 2, but it could only match older AI models and wasn’t as advanced as the latest ones. However, this year, Llama 3 is different. It can compete with the newest and most advanced AI models available, and in some areas, it even leads the way.

What Is Llama 3.1?

Meta has created its most advanced AI model yet, called Llama 3.1. This new model is built on the foundation of Llama 3 and is both powerful and enjoyable to use.

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, shared some interesting thoughts in a recent blog post. He compared the development of open-source AI models to the history of Linux, an open-source operating system.

Linux started as a small project but eventually became more popular than many commercial operating systems. Zuckerberg believes open-source AI models will follow a similar path, eventually becoming more advanced and widely used than proprietary, or closed-source, AI models.

Zuckerberg also drew a comparison between Meta’s current focus on open-source AI and a previous project called the Open Compute Project. The Open Compute Project aimed to redesign data centers to be more efficient and cost-effective through collaborative innovation. This project saved Meta a lot of money and improved their data center operations significantly.

Zuckerberg expects that investing in open-source AI will bring similar benefits. He believes that by working together and sharing knowledge openly, the development of AI will advance more quickly and efficiently, leading to major improvements and cost savings, just like the Open Compute Project did for data centers.

The MetaAI assistant is now multilingual and available in 22 countries, including new additions like Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Cameroon.

Users can interact with Meta AI on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook in new languages such as French, German, Hindi, Romanized Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, with more languages to be added soon.
