ISRO explained that the problem occurred during a maneuver aimed at bringing the satellites 225 meters closer. The drift was larger than anticipated after a period when the satellites were not in view.

ISRO Delays SpaDeX Docking

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has decided to delay its ambitious Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) once again. This delay happened because the two satellites involved in the mission drifted apart more than expected.

ISRO explained that the problem started during an attempt to bring the two satellites closer to each other. The goal was to reduce the distance between them to just 225 meters. However, during the process, the distance between the satellites increased more than planned after a phase when the satellites were not in view of their control system. This unexpected drift caused the docking attempt to be postponed until the issue is resolved.

ISRO Delays SpaDeX New Timelines and Details

The SpaDeX mission, which was originally set to take place on January 7, has been delayed once again and is now rescheduled for January 9. This is the second time the mission has been delayed.

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) has assured everyone that the two satellites involved in the mission, SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target), are both safe and working properly. They will announce a new schedule for the docking attempt soon.

The SpaDeX mission was launched on December 30, 2024, using the PSLV C60 rocket. The goal of the mission is to showcase India’s ability to perform space docking, which is a critical technology in space exploration. This is an important achievement, as only three other countries, United States, Russia, and China, have successfully done space docking before.

Currently, the two satellites are in orbit at a height of 475 km above Earth and weigh about 220 kg each.

ISRO also mentioned that due to an unexpected drift in the satellites’ paths, they need more time for analysis to ensure that the mission will be successful.

Space docking is a complex process that involves carefully aligning and connecting two spacecraft while they are in orbit around Earth. This process is very important for future space exploration missions, as it can be used to send astronauts or cargo to space stations or other spacecraft in the future.

ISRO’s SpaDeX Mission

This experiment is very important for India’s space program. It is helping India move towards developing advanced space technologies. These advancements could make it possible to build a space station that orbits the Moon, send a mission to bring back samples from the Moon (Chandrayaan-4), and allow astronauts to stay in space for longer periods.

Even though the mission has been delayed, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) is still focused on successfully completing the docking attempt. ISRO has made it clear that safety and accuracy are their top priorities. They also mentioned that every challenge faced during the mission is a chance to learn and improve. This helps India’s space program grow stronger and more capable in the future.
