Nepal’s former cricket team captain, Sandeep Lamichhane, faced a serious legal issue on Friday when a court convicted him of raping a minor. This followed his arrest after a 17-year-old girl accused him of the assault in a Kathmandu hotel room in August of the previous year.

Despite being currently out on bail, Lamichhane’s legal situation remains uncertain. On January 12, the Patan High Court granted his release in response to a review petition he filed. A joint bench of judges, Dhruva Raj Nanda and Ramesh Dahal, ordered his release on a bail bond of ₹2 million under specific conditions.
