Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Born in Lahore in 1979, Sarfaraz had close ties to the founder of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Although he was accused of involvement in the attack on Sarabjit Singh, he was acquitted by a Pakistani court in 2018 due to insufficient evidence against him.

Amir Sarfaraz Tamba, who was accused of brutally murdering Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Lahore back in 2013, was shot and killed by unidentified attackers in the city on Sunday, according to PTI reports.

Tamba, known for his association with Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was gunned down while riding a motorcycle in Lahore’s Islampura area. He was quickly taken to a hospital in critical condition but unfortunately, he couldn’t survive.

This incident occurred six years after Tamba and Mudassar were declared innocent by a Pakistani court due to lack of evidence, as all witnesses had withdrawn their statements.

Who Was Sarabjit Singh?

Sarabjit Singh, a man from Punjab, was given a death sentence for being accused of spying and causing bomb blasts that killed at least 14 people in Pakistan’s Punjab province in 1990. His family and Indian authorities strongly deny these accusations. According to his family, Sarabjit Singh mistakenly crossed the border while he was farming.

After spending more than 20 years in a Pakistani prison, Sarabjit Singh passed away in May 2013. He was held in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore for 23 years until he was attacked by fellow inmates, reportedly led by Amir Sarfaraz.

The attack occurred shortly after India executed Afzal Guru, who was convicted for the 2001 Parliament attack. Sarabjit Singh suffered serious brain injuries from being hit with bricks by other prisoners. He later died from these injuries and was repatriated to India.

During his imprisonment, Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur tirelessly campaigned for his release.

In 2016, a Hindi movie named ‘Sarabjit’ was released, featuring Randeep Hooda and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film was inspired by Dalbir Kaur’s efforts to free her brother.

For over twenty years in a Pakistani prison, Sarabjit Singh’s sister, Dalbir Kaur, tirelessly fought to free him. She firmly believed in his innocence, asserting that he had unknowingly crossed into Pakistan when he was arrested. Kaur even traveled to Pakistan to visit him.

Tragically, Dalbir Kaur passed away on June 26, 2022, and was laid to rest in Bhikhiwind.
