Kunal Kamra Faces Legal Heat
Three separate cases have been registered against comedian Kunal Kamra at the Khar police station. According to Mumbai Police, these complaints were filed by the Mayor of Jalgaon city, a hotelier, and a businessman from Nashik.
The controversy began after Kamra released an episode on March 23, in which he performed a parody of a song from the 1997 film Dil Toh Pagal Hai, allegedly mocking Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The act sparked outrage, leading Shiv Sena workers to vandalize the venue where the show was recorded. Shortly after the incident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) began demolishing parts of the Habitat studio.
Despite the backlash, Kamra refused to apologize for his remarks about Shinde. Reacting to the incident, he stated, “I will not apologise… I don’t fear this mob & I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down.”
Amid growing legal pressure, Kamra sought protection from arrest. On Friday, the Madras High Court granted him interim anticipatory bail in connection with the FIRs filed against him. Justice Sunder Mohan ruled that the bail would remain in effect until April 7, with certain conditions.
