PM Modi To Meditate for 2 Days in Kanniyakumari

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 73, will embark on a 48-hour meditation retreat at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu, starting May 30. This spiritual journey follows his extensive campaigning across the country for the Lok Sabha elections.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial, a scenic site near the statue of Tamil saint Tiruvalluvar, is located offshore at India’s southernmost point. PM Modi will meditate at the same spot where Swami Vivekananda once did. Arriving Thursday evening, he plans to return to Delhi by June 1, as he seeks a third term in office.

Significance of Kanniyakumari

Kanniyakumari is a very special place in India, especially when it comes to Swami Vivekananda. This location is where Swami Vivekananda had a significant vision of Bharat Mata, which is Mother India. This vision had a deep impact on his life and mission, much like how Sarnath is important for Gautam Buddha.

Swami Vivekananda spent three days meditating at this very spot, which is now called Dhyan Mandapam. This meditation period is a key part of his spiritual journey.

Kanyakumari is also important in Hindu mythology. It is believed that Goddess Parvati meditated here while she was waiting for Lord Shiva, adding to the spiritual significance of the place.

Geographically, Kanyakumari is notable because it is the southernmost point of India. This is where the eastern and western coastlines of the country meet. Furthermore, Kanyakumari is unique because it is where three major bodies of water—the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea—come together.

In recent years, after completing election campaigns, the prime minister often visits spiritual sites. For example, in 2019, he visited Kedarnath, and in 2014, he went to Shivaji’s Pratapgarh. These trips highlight the ongoing tradition of seeking spiritual rejuvenation at important religious and historical locations in India.
