Jivitputrika Vrat 2024 History

In Hindu mythology, there was once a kind and selfless king named Jimutavahana. He chose to give up his luxurious life and handed over his kingdom to his brothers, deciding to live in the forest. In the woods, he came across a distressed woman who was crying because it was her turn to feed the mighty bird, Pakshiraj Garuda.

After learning about her family’s struggles with the feeding tradition, the compassionate king comforted her, assuring her that he would help her reunite with her child.

Determined to save her child, Jimutavahana wrapped himself in cloth and presented himself to Garuda. When the great bird was about to devour him, Jimutavahana remained calm and fearless. Garuda, intrigued, asked him about his identity. The king shared his story, which deeply touched Garuda’s heart.

Moved by Jimutavahana’s bravery and compassion, Garuda promised that he would no longer demand sacrifices from snake families. This noble act brought immense joy to the Nagvansha (the lineage of snakes), who in turn blessed Jimutavahana with happiness, prosperity, and good fortune.
