COVID-19 Cases Rise Again in Asia
After a period of calm, COVID-19 cases are increasing once more in densely populated regions of Asia, especially in Hong Kong and Singapore. Health officials have raised alarms as cases spike again.
Data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows that China may soon face a new wave of COVID-19 cases, reaching levels similar to last summer’s peak.
Edwin Tsui, controller of Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection, said, “After the resumption of normalcy, Hong Kong experienced cycles of active periods of COVID-19 every six to nine months. We expect the activity level of COVID-19 to remain high for the next few weeks.”

In other news, Australian cricketer Travis Head, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), recently tested positive for COVID-19. Australia reported over 58,000 cases in early May, according to a PTI report.

Shilpa Shirodkar’s Journey
Shilpa Shirodkar took part as a housemate in the popular reality show Bigg Boss 18, which was hosted by Salman Khan. During the show, she developed a close friendship with fellow contestants Karan Veer Mehra and Chum Darang. Actor Karan Veer Mehra eventually won the season.
Shilpa has a strong background in Bollywood, having acted in several hit films in the 1990s. Some of her notable movies include Trinetra (1991), Hum (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992), Aankhen (1993), Pehchaan (1993), Gopi Kishan (1994), Bewafa Sanam (1995), and Mrityudand (1997). Her last Bollywood film was Gaja Gamini, directed by the legendary painter and filmmaker MF Hussain, featuring stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit.

Shilpa comes from a family with strong ties to the Marathi film and theatre world. She is the daughter of Marathi actress Gangu Bai and granddaughter of Meenakshi Shirodkar, a well-known Marathi film and theatre artist. In 2000, Shilpa married Aparesh Ranjit, a banker based in the UK, and together they have a daughter.
Her sister, Namrata Shirodkar, is also famous. Namrata was crowned Femina Miss India in 1993 and is married to the popular Telugu actor Mahesh Babu.
