Rajkummar Rao, known for his packed schedule, is expected to begin filming a courtroom drama inspired by the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks later this year. Reports have suggested that the film will be based on the life of Ujjwal Nikam, the public prosecutor in the high-profile case.
As reported by Pinkvilla, sources claimed that the biopic is planned to go on floors in the last quarter of 2025 and will follow a start-to-finish shooting schedule. Preparations for the film are currently in progress.
It was mentioned that Rajkummar Rao is likely to undergo intense acting workshops to portray the real-life lawyer convincingly. Sources also revealed that several actors had been considered for the role, but director Avinash believed no one fit the character as well as Rajkummar Rao.
Rajkummar Rao to Start Shooting for Ujjwal Nikam Biopic in August
Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is getting ready to start shooting for his upcoming film in August 2025. The movie is a powerful courtroom drama based on the life of Ujjwal Nikam, India’s well-known public prosecutor. The story is inspired by the legal battles that followed the deadly 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
The 26/11 attacks were one of the most tragic incidents in Indian history, where terrorists attacked multiple places in Mumbai. Ujjwal Nikam led the trial against the terrorists and played a key role in bringing justice. This film will show the courtroom scenes, legal arguments, and real challenges faced during the trial. It aims to highlight one of India’s most intense and unforgettable legal fights.
A source close to the film told Pinkvilla, “The preparation for the film has already started. Rajkummar Rao will be attending intense acting workshops to understand how Ujjwal Nikam handled these cases in real life. Many big names were considered for the role, but director Avinash Arun felt that Rajkummar Rao was the best choice.”
The film is being directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, a banner known for producing strong and impactful stories. Earlier, there were rumors that superstar Aamir Khan might play the lead role, but he stepped out due to his busy schedule.
The source added, “This movie is a tribute to Ujjwal Nikam, who is one of India’s greatest public prosecutors. Rajkummar, Avinash, and Dinesh are all very excited to bring this important story to the big screen. It will showcase some of the biggest courtroom battles India has seen, giving the audience a chance to witness justice in action.”
This film is expected to not only entertain but also educate people about the legal system and the brave people who fight for justice behind the scenes.

Ujjwal Nikam Biopic to Focus Solely on 26/11 Mumbai Terror Trial
Although the upcoming Rajkummar Rao film is inspired by real events and a real person, Maddock Films has confirmed that it will not follow the usual biopic format. Instead of covering Ujjwal Nikam’s entire life, the movie will center only on one of his most important and challenging cases, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack trial.
The film will mainly showcase how Ujjwal Nikam, as a public prosecutor, led the legal battle against Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist from the attack. The story will zoom in on the legal strategy, intense courtroom moments, and Nikam’s tireless efforts to deliver justice. By narrowing the focus, the makers aim to create a powerful and engaging courtroom drama that captures the seriousness and intensity of the case.
Ujjwal Nikam is widely regarded as one of India’s most respected and successful public prosecutors. With a legal career that has spanned many decades, he has fought numerous high-profile cases involving terrorism, underworld crime, and violence against women. However, his most famous and defining moment came during the 2008 Mumbai attacks, where his sharp courtroom skills and determination played a major role in ensuring that justice was done.
This film will shine a spotlight on that trial, not just to tell a story, but to honour the efforts of those who work behind the scenes to keep the justice system strong and fearless.
