Meanwhile, Kaleen bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) grieves the loss of his son, Munna (Divyenndu). Despite its popularity, the series has received mixed reviews from the audience.

Mirzapur Season 3 Review

After four years, Mirzapur returns with its third season, featuring Ali Fazal as Guddu Bhaiya and Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya. This season brings a reshuffling of power dynamics, marked by intense violence and bloodshed. Despite a few standout moments, Mirzapur Season 3 lacks the charm and impact of its predecessors.

The season offers a brutal revenge saga filled with visceral thrills and occasional moments of beauty. However, it struggles with a weak storyline, an overload of main characters, and predictable plot points. Nonetheless, it shines with exceptional performances and an engaging first half.

Mirzapur has been a pioneer in introducing intense violence and gore to Indian OTT platforms, and the third season amplifies these elements.

At its core, Mirzapur depicts the violent reality of the Hindi heartland, intertwining with themes of politics, law enforcement, power struggles, sex, drugs, death, conflicted relationships, and betrayal.

What Works for Mirzapur Season 3?

The new season starts where the second season left off, with Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Golu (Shweta Tripathi Sharma) enjoying their newfound power after taking over Mirzapur. Meanwhile, Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) mourns his son Munna (Divyenndu), having narrowly escaped death himself.

Directors Gurmmeet Singh and Anand Iyer have skillfully used locations to enhance the show’s realism. Key scenes, such as the destruction of Kaleen Bhaiya’s statue symbolizing the shift in power, and Madhuri (Isha Talwar) lighting Munna’s funeral pyre, highlight the evolving storyline.

Elaborate graphics are employed to illustrate the expanding Mirzapur universe, depicting the bloodshed spreading across Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Northern Bihar, and Nepal.

In terms of performances, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, and Anjum Sharma shine as Guddu, Golu, and Sharad, respectively, effectively conveying tension, conflict, and vengeance. Anjum Sharma and Vijay Varma stand out, showcasing their range with dark ambitions and emotional depth.

Supporting actors Harshita Gaur, Rajesh Tailang, and Sheeba Chadha elevate the series with their powerful performances. The third season delivers on gore and variety, keeping viewers engaged with its twists and turns.

What Doesn’t Work for Mirzapur Season 3?

The current season introduces a mix of new and returning characters, creating a complex storyline. A slower plot pace might have helped connect all the dots better.

Isha Talwar shines as Chief Minister Madhuri, though there are moments where her performance falls short for such a strong character. Some scenes evoke the atmosphere of Game of Thrones, keeping the shock factor high and engaging.

Fans of Mirzapur have long awaited a showdown between Kaleen bhaiya and Guddu bhaiya, which is absent this season. Throughout the episodes, except for the last 15 minutes, Pankaj Tripathi’s character seems to step back from the gangster world, allowing younger characters and new rivalries to take center stage.

Rasika Dugal delivers a compelling performance as Beena Tripathi, but her character feels underdeveloped. She excels in her scenes, whether scheming or showing her maternal vulnerability. Priyanshu Painyuli’s character Robin, who had a strong entry in season two, also feels underutilized this time around.

The finale is somewhat underwhelming, lacking the expected excitement and leaving viewers questioning the buildup. The show leans heavily into its intense rhythm, which may have led to missed opportunities and unresolved plot points. Despite this, it remains a fun binge-watching experience, best enjoyed with friends.

Mirzapur Season 3 Review Final Takeaway

The stakes and risks are high, and the drama is intense, but the flair is lacking. Despite a predictable storyline, the third season of Mirzapur deserves a watch for its strong performances, direction, and blood-soaked horror moments. Produced by Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur Season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video India.
