UGC-NET Exam Cancelled Amid Integrity Concerns

The NTA announced that students needing assistance can reach them via their help desk at 011-40759000 or 011-69227700, or by emailing csirnet@nta.ac.in.

The UGC-NET was abruptly cancelled by the NTA just a day after it took place, citing potential issues with the exam’s integrity.

The decision followed reports received by the University Grants Commission (UGC) suggesting possible compromises in the exam’s conduct. A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry has been initiated.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the cancellation was prompted by the discovery of a leaked exam question paper on the darknet.

What Education Ministry Responds?

The Ministry of Education abruptly canceled the UGC-NET exam one day after it took place, citing concerns about the exam’s integrity being compromised.

The decision came after the University Grants Commission (UGC) received information from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), part of the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to the Ministry of Education, this information suggested that there may have been compromises to the integrity of the exam.

The cancellation of the UGC-NET exams sparked widespread dissatisfaction among students, many of whom alleged irregularities in the exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

In response to the controversy, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate.

He mentioned that upon receiving reports from the cyber crime team about exam questions appearing on the darknet, the UGC chairman verified this against the original papers. Subsequently, it was decided to launch a CBI investigation and cancel the exam due to confirmed compromises to its integrity.
